LX Premium Radiation-Shielding Glass Offers Superior Clarity And Stain Resistance
Technical Glass Products (TGP) is now distributing LX Premium, the next generation of radiation-shielding lead glass. LX Premium offers protection against radiation while resisting staining and discoloration from moisture — common in conventional lead-glass products.
The product consists of LX-57B X-ray shielding glass — which has a high radiation shielding capability — sandwiched between two panels of protective sheet glass. This multilayer structure prevents the lead glass from reacting to moisture or lipids, as often occurs when lead glass is touched by bare hands or is cleaned with a damp cloth.
The protective glass sheets allow the glass to be easily cleaned from both sides to maintain a high level of transparency, making it suitable for use in X-ray control booths or observation windows where clear sightlines are required, such as in medical facilities. As a standard multilayer laminated glass system, LX Premium is resistant to shattering, even when broken, and excels in impact resistance.
The LX-57B X-ray shielding lead glass layer is a high-quality optical grade lead barium glazing for superb visual clarity. It contains over 60% heavy metal oxide and at least 55% lead oxide.
LX Premium is available in three thicknesses: LX8 Premium (15 mm) for traditional applications, LX11 Premium (18mm) and LX14 Premium (21 mm) for areas where greater protection is required, such as cancer treatment facilities.

Renzo Piano’s Art Institute of Chicago Modern Wing Relies on Fire-Rated Glass and Frames
To maintain clear lines of sight from historic Michigan Avenue through the newly opened wing to the landscape of the Millennium Park Courtyard, the interior walls for the education and boardrooms needed to be transparent from floor to ceiling, yet also meet fire and life safety codes. To solve this challenge, the architects used Pilkington Pyrostop™ transparent wall panels with Fireframes® Aluminum Series fire-rated frames, both supplied by TGP.
